Agriculture transformation has become relevant to the economic growth of many African countries. Greenhouse house farming is one of the undoubtable technologies underway to enable farmers produce all year round and also enable farmers to use less agriculture input and fertilize. A greenhouse structure is where vegetables such as tomatoes sweet pepper, Lettuce cucumber Etc are grown under controlled micro environment. This technology is used to protect plants from adverse climatic condition, pest and diseases extreme temperature and excessive radiation.
The government through Ghana Export-Import Bank(GEXIM) seeks to create 400 jobs through the establishment of the first phase of 100 greenhouse construction under the youth in greenhouse enterprise project over a three-year period .
The main objective of the project is to Create viable jobs for the youth in urban and per-urban Ghana through sustainable agriculture ventures ,reduce persistent importation of vegetables ,increase production and yield of vegetable outputs in Ghana, , stimulate medium scale Agro-processing Vegetables and also make agribusiness attractive to the youth especially tertiary graduates. The Ghanaian economy after succeeding in this project would become the first and third largest producer of greenhouse vegetables in west Africa and Africa respectively, after Kenya and south Africa.
